LOVE my kids! and husband!

Alyssa....my dear! I am so hard on you, but I love you so dearly! I expect so much of you, and you continue to love me...THANK YOU! Thank you for always helping me with Austin, and whatever else I ask of you. I am so proud of you for how well you are doing in school, and how far your reading has come.

A funny story about you....one morning while getting ready for school you come in and say, "Mom...what the hell is his problem?" I say "what did you just say? We don't talk like that." You continue to say "Look at him." I am still worried about what you said, you realize it, and you start crying. I ask where you heard that, and you say "you say it!" Oh how I wanted to laugh at the same time! You were talking about your cat running wild through the house, and it was pretty funny. Then later your dad apparently called the cat a 'peckerhead.' Another word you shouldn't have repeated. OH...hopefully we will not teach a first grader such words like this anymore!

Austin...my boy! I Love You too! You are definitely a boy in so many ways! Your vocabulary increases daily...especially when I can keep that pacifier away from you! You talk a lot at Missie's. Your vocabulary even includes football and baseball! You crack me up with your 'hut hut' and the football. You must LOVE bugs because you pick them all up at Missie's, and even torment some of the others! The last bug was a daddy long leg. Missie tells me all the time how funny you are. You love to dance. You lay down to sleep pretty easily (with your 3 pacifiers), but you continue to wake up at least once in the night!!!!

Chad...THANKS for being my amazing husband. You are so supportive to me, and I wish life didn't keep us so busy and exhausted. I can't say thank you enough for all you help me with.

I am truly blessed with two beautiful and amazing children, and an awesome husband. THANK YOU GOD for blessing me with this life.

Catch up Post....

Well, I am going to see how much I can remember from the past few months, and try to do some catching up!

In August I took the kids to get haircuts. Austin got his second one, and he still did not like it. I took him to Paula, and it didn't go too well. He refuses to wear a cape, and he just doesn't like it. As I started to return to work, Austin spent some time at Missie's. Alyssa spent a couple days with her grandparents, and then she hung out with the Leita's and babysitters.

The first day of school....August 23, 2010.....UGH! The morning started okay. We were up early, and all were doing okay. I dropped Austin off early, so I could take Alyssa to McDonald's for breakfast. We met Jack, Meghan & Kendyl as well. Alyssa did great when I dropped her off at 1st grade! I think she was a bit scared, but returning to the same school was some security for her. I think I had to work harder to fight back tears.

I was not quite ready for my first week as I had hoped since we couldn't get into school as early as we wanted. It was still under lots of construction, and the place was still pretty crazy. I was only introducing myself to my second class when my sister was callling. I didn't answer right away, but then my classroom phone rang. That's when I knew it wasn't good. My sister was with my mom, and my dad had taken his last breath. ooooohhhh..... We had just gone to visit him that Friday night before, and he wasn't doing too good. He was talking a lot of nonsense (some which made me giggle), but he had a bad weekend as well. My sister was there early to try to talk to the doctors to see what was going on. I am thankful she was with my mom. The day just became quite an emotional and overwhelming one from there.

As I sit and think about all the things we did those few days...it all runs together. Doing things I had never even thought about until I was in that moment. You know all summer, I had thought I didn't want my dad to have to suffer with this darn cancer. But then only three months it took him away from us! Surely not ready.....hate this disease!

Chad ended up coming to meet me so we could head to Austin. One of my friends picked up Alyssa and my inlaws picked up Austin. Chad & I had been to Austin, LG, and back to NB. I don't think Alyssa really got it when I told her. She didn't really know how to react until she was around her older cousin. Alyssa went to school the next day, and my in-laws picked her up and brought her and Austin to LG with them. We were busy with the funeral home, collecting pictures, ordering flowers, helping mom get things, calling family, and other things you just don't think of.

I was totally overwhelmed with the love and support given to us. Some of my high school and college friends that attended the visitation and funeral simply took my breath away. There were also our friends from NB (and farther) who made the trip to show their love and support. I was overcome with emotion from seeing some of those 'dear' friends. The service was amazing, and quite emotional. My sister did a great job speaking about my dad, and my brother-in-law did an amazing job playing the guitar and singing. My poor niece struggled a lot....she LOVED her popo.

The day of the service was long, but made me smile in so many ways as well. As stubborn as my dad was, that church was full....about as full as the day I saw it on my wedding. Dad was a tough man at times...he told you how he felt.....but he still cared. Guess that is how I am a lot! After the service, we headed to the cemetary for a nice goodbye. The grandkids each had a balloon with a picture/note in it that they released to Popo in heaven. Then we went back to the church to visit with friends and family. That was nice. And, lastly we ended up at Mom's with family. Almost all the cousins were there....even the ones from out of state. It was nice to just visit and catch up with everyone. Stinks that it takes a death though to all stop and bring us all together...no matter what is going on.

We spent the rest of the weekend with my mom before heading back home. Once we returned home, Chad & I continued to be overwhelmed by the love and support we received! We still received a couple plants, food from my bunco group, and MORE food/cards from all my co-workers. I work at one of the most loving and supportive campuses I can even imagine. I will never be able to express my gratitude to all of them for their love and support shown. To this day....so many are still so considerate and ask about my mom.

Mom still continues to struggle, and I worry about her daily. I do make a point to call her nearly everyday on my way home....something I didn't do nearly enough before. Shortly after she lost dad, she lost Jasmine. My old dog, that they had for years. UGH! Seriously....I guess dad just couldn't live without her! I mean this is a dog they took to DQ for ice cream!

We continue to move on each day, but I think of dad often. I look at pictures when I can, and I am reminded to take more pictures too! I didn't have nearly enough of him with my kiddos!

As far as September goes....let's see what I can remember. My family came to visit us on Labor Day weekend. We even went to the river some to hang out with my cousins that were there. The kids had a BLAST swimming in the pool there while we visited. Momo babysat while the adults went to see the Spazmatics on Sunday evening. The kids had numerous doctors appointments. Alyssa has had ear infections, and after a few rounds of meds, we are on some allergy medicine. Hoping that will work! The doctor was concerned about Austin's weight gain, but it seems to be progressing slowly! I try not to worry about it too much....he is just a picky eater. He eats better at daycare than he does at home. So, thankfully that occurs!

Alyssa has enjoyed a couple birthday parties as well! She went to her friend Taytum's at her house, and then she went to her first bowling party for Meghan! I think she really enjoyed that as well...she wasn't sure what to do at first, but by the time I returned she seemed to have a lot of fun!

Fair weekend came and went as well! We attended the parade...met up with Kolby, Karsyn & Madyson. That was fun....other than a bit of rain on us! Austin did pretty well watching it also. On Sunday afternoon we went to the fair to ride rides & see the animals. Alyssa LOVES to ride rides....Austin....I don't think so much! We put him on a train/roller coaster, and he was NOT a fan!

Fair weekend also welcomed a new addition to our family....Merlot! He is an orange & white striped cat we adopted from the shelter. Dad is not a fan, but we are surviving. The smell from the litter is the biggest obstacle! Austin really likes the cat! Alyssa had her 1st grade school pictures, and she was also playing fall softball! That went well. Practices were once a week, and then games were on Saturdays. She improved, although she often struggled with hitting. Somehow we gotta put some meat on those bones! She loves to be the 'backer upper' to first base! Its so cute to watch the girls play at this age.

October came and went quickly! I have found how hard it is to watch volleyball and football games right now! It is a lot of work to take both kids by myself....well some may not think so but it is exhausting to me! I don't get to watch much of the game either. But we have made it to some!

Alyssa did the Aristocat dance clinic, and I think she really enjoyed it! She knew a few of the girls, so that was nice as well. The following Friday she danced before the Canyon game. She even joined in with the cheerleaders since she couldn't go to the clinic due to softball. That Friday night involved us eating at the HS before the game, dropping off Alyssa to dance, going to the pregame to watch her dance, then waiting for her to cheer, then going to see some of dad's game at SV, and then helping prepare the postgame meal for his staff! WHEW! I was pooped after that! BUT...it was FUN!

We got Austin another haircut as well....AWFUL!!! Took him to a place where I didn't know the people. He just didn't like it. Not sure what I will do with him. And, this one really cut it short, so no more of that baby style look. :(

We attended one of my former players' weddings...Chelsea was BEAUTIFUL! And so was the hall and everything about the wedding. The kids spent the evening with Ms. Cathy & Mr. Kevin! I think they had a blast too!

Then there was Alyssa's 1st grade 1st 9 weeks awards ceremony. She received a Golden Eagle Award for having all E's the 1st 9 weeks. She also received the Soaring Eagle Award....SO PROUD!!!!!!! This was an award given to ONE first grader in each class for going above their codes, being so helpful, etc... That just makes me smile. Her report card looked great, and her reading is ahead right now. She is at a 10 DRA I think. Her teacher had great things to say about her, which warmed my heart. She also told me she is VERY helpful towards her classmates, but she needs to tell them no sometimes to continue doing her work. :) And, she told her she needs to not worry about what others say to her if it bothers her. OH...poor thing already has that from me!

Halloween was a FUN day as well! We went to LoLo's house for a kid party. The kids had fun coloring, playing with bubbles & play-doh, playing on the swings & slides, riding in the wagon, and hitting the pinata. The pizza and cupcakes were great too! Alyssa was Dorothy. Austin was supposed to be a lion but he CRIED at the thought of me putting that on him. So, I ordered him a fly fisherman outfit. He looked PRECIOUS even though he wouldn't wear the hat. We lucked out borrowing a Dorothy dress for Alyssa, and then we found some red shoes for her! She was CUTE! After the party, we headed to go trick or treating with Kinley, Lathan & Ty. The little ones chilled in the wagon...most of the trip. The older ones enjoyed going up to get their candy as well.

And, then there was Wurstfest! Two of the greatest weekends in NB. We were fortunate to take the kids on both Saturdays, and then head back for some adult time in the evenings. Alyssa rode the rides, but Austin was not interested. On the second Saturday, the grandparents joined us also. We went to enjoy the music, rides, and the food! It was great! My sister and her family joined us that evening too. Then Momo watched the kids while we all went back for more music and food!

I had such great hopes for this past week since it was early release. I was going to get caught up on some things at work. HAH! Instead, I have been in pain since Monday morning...in my neck & upper shoulder area. After 3 visits to a chiropractor and an MRI....I have a herniated disc! SERIOUSLY! I don't even know how. Probably from all those nights of falling asleep on the couch grading papers, and then getting up to pick Austin out of bed since he woke up AGAIN! I hope to get some answers & direction tomorrow. It is painful though & very uncomfortable.

And, there have been showers for the two December brides. I helped host a shower for my friend Jamey a few weeks ago, and then yesterday was a shower for Megan. Alyssa is going to be a flower girl in both of these weddings. I can't wait to see how beautiful she will be. Megan was a junior bridesmaid in my wedding....:)

WHEW...that's all I can remember at this moment!

Oh how I wish I had time to blog....

Seriously....it's been over a month since I have been able to post. There is so much to share, and I hope I don't forget some of it! I need to finish wrapping up summer, going back to days of inservice, construction at school, the start of another year, Alyssa starting 1st grade, another football season, hoping my first day of school is never so devastating again, losing my dad to a terrible thing called cancer, trying to catch up after missing the first week of school, all of us getting the stomach bug, being overwhelmed to be surrounded by such an amazing support system of family and friends, another softball season starting for Alyssa, Austin's bubbly personality, most recently now Momo has lost Jasmine (my old puppy), and we might be getting a kitten soon. Oh, so much to catch up on with work, life, my kids, sleep, and so much more. I hope to be back this weekend to share some things on my family.

I love you Ms. Alyssa and Mr. Austin. Thanks for truly being the bright spots in my day, even when my patience is gone & I don't always show the best love. I do love you both and your daddy....more than you all will ever know.

Some Catching Up To Do....

Wow it has been a long time since I last wrote....where do I begin? What has happened? This will be a 'journal' entry for me to write about the last couple of weeks.

July 24 - Mom & Dad's 45th Anniversary - WOW! That's a long time! The sad part about the day was that we had to be at the nursing center to visit dad, and it was not one of his best days. All of my family went, and we took mom out to lunch with us.

July 26 - Took the kids for their yearly checkups.
Austin - 1 yr appt - got shots, weight 20 lb 6 oz (13%), 32" height (95%), 18.5 head - the doctor was worried about his weight - has gone down - she said we will have to come back in 6 weeks to check up on things - kind of scares me, but I am trying to not really worry; Austin is a PICKY eater! He has transitioned to the sippy cup & whole milk VERY easily, but I can't get him to eat many things! He likes ANY bread foods just about, and he likes yogurt and applesauce. One day he will eat something for me....the next day he won't. It is VERY hard for me to keep track of his teeth - he won't let me in there! He had 11 the day I took him, but today (8/8/10) - I realized he was getting another one on the bottom front. SO...he now has 12 in all. 4 front on top & bottom & then all four molars are peeking through! He is pretty good through it all, and it doesn't seem to bother him too much!

Alyssa - 46 lbs, 45.6", Vision - R 20/25, L - 20/20, she is doing great! I need to work on her 'pickiness' as well! I wish I had more time and experience to be a better cook as well....then there would be more variety! Cooking is definitely one of my weaknesses....thankfully Chad still loves me!

July 27 - took the kids with me to watch a little volleyball for open gym...that was fun! Alyssa had fun playing with a 'light' volleyball...I hope she will one day really enjoy the game!

July 28 - Alyssa went to a sleepover at her BFF's house (kinley) - she was SUPER excited!

July 29 - Austin went to daycare, Alyssa went to Bisque Bistro for a 'class', and I helped Heather with the 9th grade volleyball camp. It was fun to be there, and I do miss it in some ways! I don't miss all the time, but I miss Heather, Tara & the other coaches, the connection with the girls, and the 'pride' that comes with it. HOWEVER, I am enjoying the lesser stress in life right now! That night Alyssa's other BFF (ainsley) came over for a sleep over, and we enjoyed a picnic in the park while listening to music.

July 30-August 1 - We headed to see our families for the weekend. Chad & I had a wedding to attend on Saturday for a former football player. So, on Saturday Alyssa stayed with my sister, and Austin stayed with Chad's parents. They both had lots of fun with cousins! We enjoyed the wedding as well. It was a nice little getaway. That Sunday we spent some time at my moms, cleaning, visiting & helping her. Mikaylee came back with us for a couple days.

August 2 - I took Mikaylee & Alyssa to the bahn! We had a great time! I had fun hanging out with them, and we spent all day there. They were pooped by the end of the day....we hit all 3 parks! We had some 'alarming' moments, but all in all we had a LOT of fun! Chad was at work for football camp & meetings all week.

August 3 - I took dad to another doctor appt. He is very weak, and there is not much 'muscle' to him. I wish that he could be happier, and not feel the need to complain about everything! Mikaylee & Alyssa traveled along with me, and they were GREAT! I was so proud of how well they were. It was a long day from NB to Bastrop to Austin to Bastrop to LG and back to NB by 6 to pick up Austin!

August 4 - 5 - We took our time in the mornings hanging out - me and the kiddos. Then Austin headed to daycare while Alyssa & I did various things. Alyssa had Kinley over for a sleepover....they had a GREAT time playing. VERY cute to watch them! A silly thing that made my night....baking cupcakes for Corbin's party when I realized the eggs were old. SO, I did not hesitate to get in the truck and make a 'quick' trip to HEB to get more stuff. Since the new one has opened up down the road, it was quite convenient!

August 6 - Met Bonnie to get pictures done of the kids in the park. The kids did great, and Bonnie got some GREAT pictures. NOW, I have to try to make some decisions! We left in the afternoon to head home for Corbin's 5th birthday party. He had a pool party, and it was a lot of fun! I think he really enjoyed it too! Swimming, pizza, and cake....can't go wrong with that! Alyssa TRULY surprised me as she asked to go jump off the diving board! REALLY???? Are we talking about the same person??? There was a lifeguard there to help her when she jumped in, but then she had to swim to the ladder. I was so proud of her! Just made me simply smile! She has come such a long way in the water, and learning to swim! So fun to watch her overcome some of these fears she has. She is such a 'cautious' person! I am thankful for that, but there are moments when it is a bittersweet quality.

August 7 & 8 - We headed to Austin to spend time with the Lyons family! We headed out to the dock to get their boat, and we spent the day on Lake Travis. They have a raft that can hold 4 people. I wasn't sure how Alyssa would do, but she surprised us again! The 4 kids loaded up on the raft and let John pull them for a while. We would stop & swim in some areas as well. She was very worried at first, but she soon realized that the life jacket would take care of her. I enjoyed seeing the 'eyes' with the fear for a brief second as the waves caused them to bounce & then there was the smile to follow afterwards. Holly & I even hopped on with the girls for a while, and then we challenged John to pulling us two 'women.' That was a LOT of fun.....I haven't laughed that much in a while. It felt great! It took a bit....but he met his goal of throwing us off the tube...a couple times! Then of course, it was the boys' turns. Chad went on with J & W, and I think he had a lot of fun! Even when they all got taken under a bit! Austin was not sure about this trip at first....he did NOT like the lifejacket. I just left it on him, making him get used to it. The first time in the water he was fussing, like he wanted in. So, I brought him in too, but I don't think he was too fond of it. He even got himself a nap in on the boat as well. By the end of the day, he didn't even really notice the lifejacket. He was a trooper through it all. Then we had dinner at their Grammy's house. It was so nice to spend the day with such great friends that we don't get to see as much as we would like. They truly spoiled us, and we are so blessed. Alyssa even got to sleep in a tent with Abi.

We woke up this morning, and headed back to NB after seeing Holly's new school. We had great intentions to head to the bahn, but we were too pooped. Plus, we needed to get some laundry and rest!

Chad begins two-a-days this week. So, we will not see him much anymore during football season. We are lucky though, because he still gets his weekends. I have so many things I want to get done this week as inservice is next week, and then school starts the following week. I also have to start focusing on work some....I have a new prep this year...Geometry! I am trying to maintain a positive attitude about it.

I am truly blessed with two beautiful children. They are always given compliments on their beautiful blue eyes. Alyssa's are just 'mesmerizing'. And, Austin has such long eyelashes with his blue eyes. Austin has the CUTEST giggle, and I love listening to it as I turn him upside down & tickle him. He is learning to sign 'more'...even if it is just for more bread! He is a pretty happy guy unless he is hungry or tired! Alyssa is my 'pleaser' and is very worried about knowing what all we are doing for the day, and where we are going next. Are we on the go much??? They are pretty good kids who are very healthy! That alone is enough reason to be thankful. I need to somehow find a way to remind myself everyday to "slow down...have patience....enjoy the moments...be happy....and be thankful." Why is that so hard? Oh yeah....simply called LIFE!

I thank God for blessing me with such a wonderful family, and I ask God to watch over my mom & dad during this tough time.

Alyssa & Austin....I love you more than words can express! MUAH!

Port A!

July 18-21, 2010

We headed to Port A for our annual trip! We don't know how many years we have gone now, but we do look forward to it each year! We also enjoy that the trip now involves my sister and her family. We even got my parents involved; however, they didn't get to join us this trip. :( I know dad really wanted to be there to go fishing with the guys!

We left on Sunday, but first we headed to Austin to go visit dad....all four of us went for a short visit. Then we headed to Port A. The kids did pretty well, and slept about half of the way. We went to the condo and unpacked. Then the four of us went out to eat for dinner before making a quick run to the grocery store. My sister and family arrived about the time we returned.

Monday was the day at the beach. We got there around 11 am and left around 6 pm. The kids had a BLAST! We set up canopies, and made a day of it! Austin enjoyed it too...he of course tried to eat the sand. He never really napped, except when my sister left for a bit! I don't know how he made it all day like that! Then we headed back and rinsed off. I gave Austin a bath, fed him, and put him to bed. The guys worked on dinner, while Renee took the kiddos to the pool for a while. It was a FUN day!

Tuesday was the day the guys got up early to go fishing, which was a great success! My sister and I loaded up the kids and headed to Corpus. We took them to the Aquarium, which was a lot of fun! I think they really enjoyed it. Then we went to eat on the water at Joe's Crab Shack! That was fun...Corbin made the waiters dance again as he kept requesting it! Small world as a canyon kid was our waiter, and one of my former students was the bartender! Fun to see that! We headed back for more swimming in the pool while the guys grilled some of their fish that they caught! YUMMY!

Wednesday left us getting ready to pack up and head home. However, since my sister wasn't leaving yet, we did not have to rush out of there. So, we headed to the beach for a few more hours. Alyssa had more fun on the boogie boards this day as she and Corbin even raced some! We headed back to get ready, and Alyssa enjoyed some more swimming while we cleaned and packed up! She has definitely gotten better at swimming, and even a bit more confident. Thanks also to Aunt Renee for her swimming lessons while we were there! The ride back was VERY peaceful....the kids slept almost the entire time.

Another trip to the beach....great memories with great family....just too short, as usual! I do have to say that I look forward to the days when the kids grow up and don't argue about such 'petty' stuff....please tell me that will happen. I know they love each other, but why can't they just 'PLAY' instead of testing each other, and arguing over silly stuff???? Thanks to my sis and bro-in-law for getting the place for us....we had a LOT of fun!

Happy 12th Anniversary!

July 18, 2010

I can't believe it has already been 12 years! This anniversary was not anything major for us. We have both been so busy, and consumed by so much that we didn't do too much. Our anniversary fell the day after the parties, and the day we were leaving for the beach. So, it left us with cards and dinner at an 'okay' restaurant. Of course....it was spent with my family, and that is what matters most!

I am so blessed to have Chad in my life. He puts up with a lot from me, and I am so greatful for that! We are so blessed with two beautiful children, a beautiful home, loving families, and amazing friends. We are so thankful that God brought us to NB where we have made some amazing connections. We are sometimes in awe at the life we live daily....

I love you Chad, and I look forward to many more years full of wonderful memories!

Time for Birthday Parties!

Saturday, July 17

Little late on this, but will backtrack...

We got up early to finish getting ready for Alyssa's party.
Swim Party at the YMCA - 10-12 am with iCarly theme
Alyssa seemed to have a blast!!! She had some friends join her at the pool. They swam for the first hour, while I pretty much entertained them in the pool! (another story...poor new girl that was assigned to our party!) Then we got out of the pool to enjoy pizza and carrots. After that, we sang Happy Birthday to Alyssa and dug into her cake. She had requested a chocolate cake with white icing and the number 6 had to be on it! It was delicious! Then she opened her presents before everyone had to go home. I think she really enjoyed her party. She spent her day with her closest friends: Kinley, Ainsley, Sidney, Ryleigh, Mikaylee, Corbin, Ryan, Logan, Hope, Prestley, Meghan, Kendyl, Karsyn, Kolby, Madyson, and Austin. She was also joined by her aunt renee, momo, granny, grandpa, ms. cathy, ms. lori, and carly! THANKS for everyone making it a GREAT party!

After Alyssa's party we headed to the house to prepare for Austin's party.
We did a monkey theme at our house from 4-6 pm.
I couldn't have made it without my sister, mom, and my inlaws! They helped me get so much done! THANKS!!
We picked up sandwiches, and made some chips and dips with fruits and veggies for all to enjoy! We invited some of our close friends over to enjoy the big day with us! Basically the kids all played in Alyssa and Austin's room while the parents mingled for a while. Then we let Austin dig into the cake. He didn't go to crazy with it...he was very mild with digging into his little monkey cake! We tried to let him open presents, but he was not too interested. So, Alyssa got to pretty much open all of his!

It was a LONG day, but a FUN day! I haven't even got to look at all of the pictures yet! I do know that we are truly blessed to be surrounded by such amazing family and friends!

Happy 6th Birthday Alyssa!

Happy 6th Birthday my sweetie! I can't believe the day has come and gone already! You had such an awesome day that it ended with you saying, "I wish everyday was my birthday!"

We woke up, got ready, and opened up a couple of presents. You loved your iCarly 'messenger' backpack, and you enjoyed playing with the magnets (that I bought at my nerd conference!). Then we went to pick up breakfast at Shipley's - you LOVE your chocolate covered donut with some donut holes, and don't forget the sunny delight! We dropped off Austin at daycare, and then on a whim we went by to pick up your BFF (kinley)! The three of us headed to the bahn for the day - 6 hours of fun! The first thing we did was ride the black knight - you guys loved it! We just played, ate, swam a lot and played some more. Then we headed to our house to get ready for dinner. You chose to eat at Olive Garden. So the five of us went to eat, and then headed to get some dessert. You enjoyed your chocolate chip cookie, and then we dropped off your friend. We headed home where you opened up a couple more presents - clothes for your zhu zhu pet and an iCarly radio with microphone. WHEW! What a fun day!

Some things that come to mind (that I haven't said recently):
-you don't like to wear a swimsuit that shows your stomach for some reason???
-you don't like to ride rides like the congo river because of all the 'noises'
-you do like roller coasters
-you can still be shy at times, but you have truly come out of that shell and don't cling to my leg quite so much
-you are very much a 'pleaser'
-sometimes I wish you would just 'relax' more and 'play'
-you get your feelings hurt VERY easily
-you want to be the one to come up with ideas
-you LOVE your little brother more than I can explain
-you are very patient with Austin
-you like to watch the Bachelorette and Big Brother with me - I probably shouldn't admit that - probably bad parenting on my part but oh well!
-you LOVE to watch TV - especially Hanna Montana, iCarly, and Suite Life

I love you so much, and I hope that you have MANY more AWESOME birthdays! I love you to the moon and back....a bazillion times.

Happy 1st Birthday Austin!

I can't believe it! You really are 1! On Monday we went to Schlitterbahn and had a great time. Chad made the comment, "One year ago we were at the hotel down the road." (the hospital) So crazy to think that! It has truly flown by. For your birthday yesterday we were BUSY! Alyssa went to VBS. You went with mom & dad to do some shopping...even for your present...because I am so behind on things! Then we picked Alyssa up, and went to have your birthday lunch at Chili's - Alyssa's choice. From there we headed to Target to do some more shopping. Then we were on our way to get cupcakes...and you were OUT!

So, we headed to Dollar Tree to get some party stuff while you slept in the car, picked up cupcakes, and headed to the park. You seemed to enjoy digging into the chocolate cupcake. (we took off the icing this time...sorry) After cleaning up we rode the train, and played in the park for a while. You had a great time!!

Some things about you....

The Latest & Greatest on our Family!

Well...so much to report about from the past two weeks! First of all, Chad and I went on a much-needed all-adult, all-inclusive get-away last week! It was absolutely amazing. We stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres....what an awesome place! The rooms with a rooftop terrace and pool absolutely made the resort! It was great for us to have some time, along with some relaxation and sun. The kids stayed at their grandparents, and my sister's too. Austin officially took off walking while we were gone. The first day back at our house he had fun just walking from room to room! I think he thought he was big stuff. On Saturday, July 3, I also discovered a tooth on the bottom right...in the back...maybe a molar?? Which is crazy because he still has the same 4 on top, 2 on bottom, plus this one! Austin has found the little car 'coupe' at my mom's house - he LOVES it! Although he gets VERY frustrated when he can't get the door to stay open. He likes to scream a bit when things don't go just his way. Not sure where he gets that from???? :) He is all about the remote controls and phones! He even points the remote at the TV to turn it on. And, he will start to chatter with the phone up to his ear! He is absolutely precious...his hair is getting a bit lighter, and he looks like he could use a haircut again. I can't believe he will be one in less than a week! I get sort of sappy at times thinking that this is it for the baby stages since we say we are done. I think about having 3 and that it would be nice, BUT then the reality of me trying to balance all that slaps me in the face! I would not be very good at balancing more than two...I struggle now!

Alyssa is counting down the days until her pool party....she is SUPER excited! She had a lot of fun while we were gone. She even collected cans to earn some cash while we were gone! Hopefully she wasn't drinking any beer from them....she was with my sister so who knows....J/K! She has, unfortunately, picked up one of my addictions - playing card games on the computer or my phone. She loves to play solitaire or spider! We have been to Schlitterbahn a couple more times with friends, and we have visited a couple libraries. We also went to the farmers market a couple weeks ago, and she enjoyed that. Alyssa LOVES to take her brother down the slides at s'bahn or the park. She wants to hold him all the time now too. She is also into putting on some of my jewelry, and playing 'office' with the computer and her notepad. It's pretty cute! I do have to admit she is not too much fun to play games with sometimes. If she is losing, or loses, it is NOT pretty. She is not a good loser! Definitely some more 'sassiness' creeping in as well...definitely tests me! She has already picked out her cat to take from my parents - it's name is Mittens! How am I going to adjust to this...we always had cats growing up. But, I don't know how to make it an outdoor cat? And what if it runs away? So, do we just keep it inside? UGH!!! I guess if it runs away...there are about 15 more to choose from at my parents!

My dad is doing okay. The chemo is taking its toll on his body right now. He is very tired, weak, and having lots of stomach cramps. So, we continue to pray for him and his strength.

We are really looking forward to our upcoming beach trip with the whole family...should be lots of fun! Can't wait to see Austin soaking up the water and sand!

Alyssa & Austin...I love you both so much! We enjoyed our trip, but we missed you both. It was so great to see you when we got back! When we talked on the phone, you told me...'Everytime I think of you mommy, I cry.' Oh, my love....I hope you will always feel that way about missing me! :)

couple quick notes...

Austin is on a mission....
He is starting to take many more steps at a time! He is off to at least 5-10 at a time, and he is practically RUNNING! Oh, how I am in trouble! Although he made me sad today when his momo picked him up from his granny's. At first he didn't want to leave granny for momo, and then he didn't want to leave momo for ME! :( He is clapping more often. ALSO, Chad is gone for 8 days, and we have had lots of phone calls. Well, Austin was playing on an old phone tonight....put it up to his ear, and said 'dada'....oh so cute, but so sad too! Miss you my love!

As far as Alyssa.....
CUTE story from tonight! One of her BFF's gave her a call tonight! They miss each other so much, and her friend Ainsley wanted to call and talk to her. They were talking about a sleepover and Alyssa's upcoming party. Alyssa even went into the other room because she didn't want me to listen! That happens already???!!! And, then she randomly started crying when we got out of the car this evening because she misses her daddy. We miss you & love you daddy!

Doing lots of reflecting these days with everything....oh how I need to be a MUCH more patient person and I need to SOAK up the moments that are flashing before me! Life is so precious, and I need to 'chill' out a bit more.

I love you Alyssa & Austin! Thanks for brightening my day!

Random Things....

Well, this summer is not quite what I expected it to be! Our goal was to hit s'bahn at least 30 times....not sure that will happen! Between Alyssa being sick for over a week, and then a couple more days...that set us back. Then Austin was sick for a few days too. We also got our sad news about Popo, so we are spending lots of time with family. Which is good play time with cousins...when 'jealousy' and 'bossiness' is not an issue! Popo is doing much better this week. 7/10 radiation treatments are done! He is eating much better, and he is definitely up out of bed much more. Momo had to get a hospital bed to help him be more comfortable. And, he is definitely bossing Momo (and all of us) around! Austin is becoming a Momo's boy...he has her picking him up the instant he crawls to her and whimpers! Alyssa might try to bring home all the cats if we let her! Not sure what we will do when we leave and don't take one home with us! Chad is currently in AZ - we were all supposed to go, but we stayed to help take care of Popo. I won't miss the HOT temperatures, but we are missing Chaddo! We will not get to spend Father's Day with him...but we hope to have a nice little surprise for him when he returns. The week after next is supposed to be mine & Chad's get-a-way to Mexico....not sure what will happen with that.

While I am selfishly sad at times, I am also doing my best to simply treasure this time with family and no work! Just have to be creative in entertaining my children out of their 'environment' for over a week. I am truly blessed, and I will continue to remind myself of that! OH...and I am sooo thankful that my mom finally upgraded her internet service so that I can actually update my blog while here! And, keep in touch with civilization through email!!! The dial-up took about 10 minutes to get to one page! The things we become so accustomed to in our fast paced lives....Peace.....

Alyssa is almost 6...YIKES!

So, really....Alyssa is only about a month away from being 6. She is only a couple months away from being a first grader! I know everyone says the time truly flies by....I see my students growing up, going to college, getting married, having babies, and possibly becoming my co-workers!

The other night Alyssa asked me if we could move so 'Mrs. S' could be her teacher??? It is a teacher at her current school, who is moving to another school. She was one of Alyssa's first babysitters, and one of my first students I worked with in CISD. SOOOO CUTE!

Some things about Alyssa:
- girl has got a 'booty' - I cannot find a swimsuit that stays over her butt - even though it is so cute!
- you does NOT like to be picked on
- you do not like for people to laugh at you - even when your funny
- if we are in the car and you say something hilarious - you do not want me to call daddy or tell anyone else
- you were sick the first week of summer which was a bummer!
- went to CSI camp at McKenna the second week of summer with one of your best buds!
- you get very jealous when people give Austin lots of attention
- you want to be the 'first' to do everything
- you want everything to be your idea!! ugh...exhausting
- you like to 'argue' - aka - backtalk - about almost everything!
- you hate to take naps
- you are a CRAZY, wild sleeper
- you want a kitten SOOOOO bad....you even cried in the pet store the other day because your daddy would not get you one (your momo has over 15!)
- you want a stuffed animal almost every time we go to a store
- you have become such a better reader
- you have been a good student working on your summer packet from your 'loving' teacher
- you are truly a momma's girl!

I love you so much my dear!

Austin is 11 months old!

Wow! Time has truly flown by! I can't believe Austin is 11 months old already! I have not even started planning the birthday party....YIKES!! At 11 months here are some of the things Austin is doing:
- Standing by himself a lot
- Taking a couple steps here and there
- He will be off running way too soon!
- LOVES LOVES LOVES to ride in the wagon - goes straight for it when the door to the garage is left open
- We try to take him & Alyssa for a walk in it to check the mail (yes, Alyssa still barely fits in it!)
- He is quite a copycat of the things we do
- A picky eater already....ugh that is probably my fault!
- Making the noise where you open your mouth & move your hand across it as you saw 'aaahhh' - FUNNY!
- Sleeps through the night on the days he goes to Missie's - guess we don't wear him out enough!
- Was sick some last week - had to do some breathing treatments for the cough, and his ears had some drainage - guess that means the tubes are working!
- Very picky about the table foods he eats - still eats some baby food though
- Will go sit and just play in the computer room with Alyssa's toys
- Has already had a few trips to Schlitterbahn & seems to enjoy it!
- Can throw a MAJOR temper tantrum if he doesn't get something he wants - OH how fun that is! Missie said he did the worm across the floor one day because he didn't get his way!
- ALREADY had your first haircut too! My friend Donna gave you a trim.
- You are usually pretty happy & give out smiles!
- You know how to shake your head "NO" and tell us when you are through eating
- LOVE to be outside
- LOVE your new shovel from your 'aunts'
- Are very ticklish
- Not sure who you really look like....definitely Daddy's eyes and then everyone says different things. I don't really think you & Alyssa look alike from this age.....
- Have been crying lately when we leave you with a sitter....I think there is some anxiety issues going on.
- Going to sleep on your own in the crib! Bittersweet!
- LOVE LOVE LOVE your big sister!

Oh how I love you sweet boy! I love how you make me smile every morning. May you always know how much love you are surrounded by!

The Bahn

Totally forgot to write about our first two trips to the Bahn! Austin had a GREAT time on our first trip when we went with some friends. He loved trying to catch the water coming up through a hole in one area....and then he loved the other area with fountains coming out of the ground. He sat for a while trying to just catch the water. He was pretty good with all of it...except when the water was REAL cold in one pool. Alyssa had a blast too...I was impressed as she went down one of the big, fast slides.

Went back another afternoon with another friend, Lo. We had a great time then as well. Austin was pretty tired though, and he fell asleep there. Alyssa and I rode one of the rides about 5 times in a row since there was no lines.

We are looking forward to many more trips there this summer!

A little behind...

I can't believe it has been almost a month since I wrote. I was doing this so I would be better about it, and ..... Well, it is May, and that always keeps us BUSY as we wrap up the end of the year! What has happened this month??

Alyssa wrapped up her softball season. She played all positions, and she definitely improved throughout the season. I think she really enjoyed playing. I am very proud of her, and how hard she tries while playing. We attended Chad's end of year baseball party....Alyssa had a blast playing there in the sand! And, Alyssa finished Kindergarten! OMG!!! She is now a first grader! Where did this year go??? She had an awards assembly the other day. She got an award for 'Terrific Writer Award for Excellent Handwriting.' I am so proud of her for getting all 'smiley' faces all year too! She has definitely come out of her shell some, and she will surely miss her teacher and friends! She is truly helpful...when she wants to be. She loves being a big sister. There is no doubt she loves Austin more than us! I hope that never changes!! She is definitely going through a stage of talking back and always wanting her way. Some days I think there is some switch that she turns on or off the moment I pick her up or when we walk through the door of the house! Again, I must work on my patience with this because I don't do very well with it. HOW do elementary teachers do it all day long every day???? I need some of that patience!

Austin is doing well since he got his tubes. Of course, he was already a pretty happy guy before them. The major change since then is that he does sleep through the night more often. We still have some nights where he wakes up around 2 am wanting a bottle. I can deal with it since he usually goes back to sleep. His follow up went well with the doctor also. He is definitely interested in standing up by himself. He does this quite a bit now. He even took one step at daycare on 5/27. He also started clapping for us this week. I think he does it at daycare. Missie says he also waves bye bye to people, but I have not yet seen him do it. You can see a finger or two move. He definitely likes to shake his head no when he does not want anymore food or drink. He is eating more table food these days, but I struggle often in the evenings with it. I think he is too exhausted at times to mess with it. However, he went to town with the spaghetti and corn the other night! He has the cutest giggles and smile. He does need a haircut right now though...it is getting long by his ears and in the back. AND, he even has Chad's same little 'ducktail' in the back! I love the mornings when he wakes up so happy and is all smiles!

We also recently celebrated our friend Ryan's first birthday, but we unfortunately missed Coleton's first birthday party today. :( Chad and I had to report to graduation duties today. I ventured out and took the kiddos to some softball this evening, and watched our Cougarettes win the Regional Finals to advance to the state tournament for the second year in a row! That was AWESOME! So great to see such excitement in kids and your peers. One of the things that makes this job so rewarding.

And, Chad and I also witnessed another year of graduation ceremonies. 11 years here in NB. 12 overall for me. 13 overall for Chad. WOW! Even though there are some tough days, it is so awesome to witness these kids on this special day. So neat to think about what lies ahead for so many of them! I was honored to be chosen for a special banquet honoring the Top 15 graduates. That banquet was about 2 weeks ago, and I attended with a VERY special young lady...Courtney! WOW...a rare find in teaching...she has truly touched my life. I hope someday Alyssa will display so many of her amazing qualities as a young person with high goals and morals.

Prayer...something that has definitely taken a priority in my life. Monday was a rough day as dad got back biopsy with results we didn't want to hear. He has lung cancer, and right now we are waiting for the scan results to find out more info. So, I pray that God gives my dad, and mom, the strength to fight through this. I pray that God helps guide the doctors and nurses that will be working with my dad. And, so many more prayers....

I am daily reminded of how precious life is, to never take anything for granted, and to remember how blessed I am. Through following students in accidents and pulling through it all, reading about someone who had premature twins and what little miracles they are, and hearing so many stories from others.....I give so many thanks for everything I have. I pray that I will learn to slow down, appreciate and savor the moments, become a stronger person, and become a 'better' person.

Alyssa, Austin & Chad...I love you so much and I thank you for your love and support everyday.

Tubes and Getting Sick

Okay, I have a bit of catching up to do. We went on April 21 to see the ENT, and of course, he decided Austin would need to get tubes. So, we scheduled them for the following Friday.

The next day, I went with Alyssa's class to the zoo! That was a lot of fun. She and I hung out with two of her friends, and another mom. We enjoyed walking around and seeing all of the animals. She wanted to see a zebra, but we did not. Funny story that cracked me up, that I must record for one day! We were watching the monkeys play, and she loudly yells out..."EWWW...you can see its booty and its tee-tee!" Stacy & I just cracked up laughing. The innocence! Apparently all but one kid from her class fell asleep on the bus ride back to NB! She even had a softball game that evening.

Over the weekend we hung out outside, and even enjoyed a trip out to Gruene to walk around. And, Austin had his 9 month pics taken at JC Penney. He did great, and I think they turned out PRECIOUS!

And, then the CRAZY week of TAKS began. Well, Monday was crazy, and the afternoon didn't get better as I got a phone call about Austin having a fever and not feeling well. His fever lasted from Mon afternoon through Thursday afternoon! Chad stayed home two days, and I stayed home two days. After two doctor visits, they said he had a throat viral infection. He was just very lethargic and had a high fever. The first couple of days he couldn't really sleep unless you held him. One night his fever got up to 105...but he was sleeping on my chest in the recliner. The fever had us worried because he was schedule to get the tubes. HOWEVER, by Friday morning it was gone. So, we got up early and they did the 'quick' surgery. He came home and took a while to get to a nap, but then he was much better!

We even watched a little bit of daddy's last baseball game to end the day. Sad for daddy that his season ended with no playoffs, but it has been a ROUGH year. Hopefully next year will be better!

And, actually, Austin & Alyssa are spending time away right now. Alyssa is with her cousins, and Austin is with his Momo. They took the kids so we could have a date night, and a night of uninterrupted sleep! THANKS! However, I, of course, was up at 7:15 AM this morning! SERIOUSLY??!! All the things I wanted to get done today were on the brain, and I couldn't get back to sleep! It was weird though walking down the hallway and seeing empty kids rooms. :(

I do look forward to picking you guys up this afternoon. Only 4 more weeks 'til summer my babies! We are looking forward to so many things!

Alyssa....I can't believe you will soon be a first grader! You love to play school with your babies when we get home! You were so proud to read a 60 page Dr. Seuss book yesterday! (So was I!) You are an AMAZING secret keeper! You are a picky eater and don't want to try new stuff! (wonder where you get that from!) You enjoy being outside on the swing and trampoline! You are not interested in wearing dresses right now, and you ONLY want to wear flip-flops! You LOVE to make Austin laugh!

Austin...I can't believe in less than 3 months you will be ONE! You LOVE to be outside! You enjoy chillin' in your swing! You love your pacifiers! I crack up at that 'sly' grin that hides behind your pacifier! You LOVE your big sister! You don't really want to be held to be put to sleep! We have to put you in the bed, you usually throw out your pacifier & cry a bit, we pick you up, you wiggle around, and then we put you back in the bed so you will go to sleep! Sometimes that cycle occurs a few times! You still sometimes gag on the '3' foods, so we are slowly adding those in! I am pretty sure the first time you said 'Mama' was the other day when you were sick, I walked out the door as you spent the day at home with daddy! Broke my heart...it was on my birthday!

I love you both so much, even though I seem to lose my patience so much! I am daily asking God to help me with that...it is one of my biggest weaknesses! So, Alyssa, even when I am so short with you, please know I love you to the moon and back a bazillion times! Austin...love you too sweet boy!

Austin is 9 months old!

I can't believe Austin is already 9 months old! It really caught me off guard today when my mom laid him down for a nap, and I just looked at how 'big' he was! Ugh...time flies way too fast. This week I took Austin in for his 9 month checkup and a follow-up for his ears. He was 19 lbs 15 oz (40% percentile) and he was just over the average with a length of 28' 3/4". His well check went well. Although he DID NOT like having his finger pricked for a hematocrit (sp?) test! That was awful, and then he still had to get his round two of H1N1 flu shots. As for the ears....:( I have already called the ENT for an appointment. She said the ears looked better, but there was still fluid. So, not looking forward to the possibility of tubes. Otherwise he is doing great! He slept through the night two times this past week....of course then Alyssa woke up for whatever reason. The doctor says its time for me to let him cry himself back to sleep - no need to feed. Ugh...not ready for that battle. Seems easier to just stop the crying with a bottle and get him back to sleep even though I am exhausted. Austin is becoming very verbal with his 'dadada' babble, his yelling, and his grunting! It is quite funny.

Momo came into town yesterday so mom & dad could go to a wedding. I think both of the kiddos REALLY enjoyed having her. SO DID I! I hope that one day I will be as patient and helpful as she is! Thanks for doing all the laundry Momo! YOU ARE THE BEST!

Alyssa had softball practice today. On Sundays dad takes her and helps coach as well. He said Alyssa had a meltdown because she wanted to be at third and someone else went there. She does a good job of going after hit balls and trying to catch them. However, she really struggled with hitting today. Poor thing...dad said you could tell she was getting frustrated at the end. HOWEVER....I write about this because this is where we were proud. When she got home she wanted to play outside while dad grilled. She went and got the tee out and was practicing off the tee on her own! I hope that persistence will always continue!

Love you both so much my precious babies! Alyssa....looking forward to the field trip to the zoo this week. Austin...I hope we all have some restful nights this week! :)

Catching up...

Trying to think of some highlights I want to point out:

Easter Weekend was GREAT! We headed home to see the family on Friday and stayed through Sunday. Friday evening Alyssa went fishing with her dad, popo, uncle and cousins. I think they had an awesome time. Saturday was time with both grandparents and even great granny. Sunday was a long day but included time for church, 3 easter egg hunts, and time spent with all of the kiddos aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. What an amazing day! Alyssa had a great time hunting for eggs....she really enjoyed the ones with money since she is not a fan of candy. Lucky for us...and for my students! I usually share the candy with them. Austin of course did not do much. He does not like to sit in the grass. So, he sat on blankets and just tried to eat the eggs!

This past week has been super busy! It has included 3 baseball games for daddy's team, one for alyssa's team, picture day for softball, and daddy's birthday and birthday dinner!!!! We went out to eat a day early and the kids were GREAT! Even Austin! He got a little loud....he was just having too much fun playing peek a boo at the restaurant. He gets very loud when he is excited, and when he is mad. Hard to tell the difference.

Alyssa....couple sidenotes about you! You have a VERY sensitive nose, and you do not like certain smells. You can't stand when we have peppermints or gum in our mouth. SILLY GIRL! You also don't like candy - except M&M's. BUT you sure LOVE your sweets. You want dessert at every meal, if possible. I found out that you buy ice cream almost every day for lunch at school. And, then you still ask for dessert at supper. I think I am going to have to limit your amount of times at school! You are getting better with softball. You are the youngest on your team. Last time you played first base. Also....funny story for the books if I didn't already write it. I asked you why you didn't want to be the 'pitcher' for your team. You told me you didn't want to put on all the stuff and be behind the batter. Bless your little heart....you were confused...thinking the pitcher was the catcher. Once I cleared that up...you were very eager to be the pitcher. You have figured out to ask your coach to play the positions where the ball will go to! :)

Austin....you are still waking up 1-2 times in the night. :( You are quickly on the move, and stand up all the time. You love the toys that make any sort of noise....you start to do your own little bouncing dance. All this while hanging onto that wub-a-nub pacifier! AND, bathtime is quite a mess these days. There is water everywhere with all your splashing. Can't wait to take you to the beach.

Almost forgot....took Alyssa to the doctor this week for a follow up on her ears. Looks like the ear infection with drainage may have actually been a good thing. Looks like the hole on her left ear has closed about 60-70%, so hopefully all will heal on its own. The doctor said the inflammation may have helped that hole close up. So, as of now, we will follow up again in a couple of months and currently no plans for surgery to patch it up. We will just have to put a plug in her left ear when swimming!

Okay...I will close for now. Must get a few things done before I take Alyssa to watch some dance and cheer performances at school.

Love you to the moon and back ms. alyssa & mr. austin!

Not a winner at Bunco...

So, I went to Bunco tonight...and I lost. :( Is it maybe because the prizes were beautiful pots of plants???? So, see Austin has already broken one other pretty pot I won at Bunco. And, on Saturday morning we were only up early for about 15 minutes before he headed straight for one plant that he pulled over and spilled the dirt everywhere! He is ALL about getting into the plants, trashcans and fans!!! And, the funniest thing is when he gets mad or doesn't like something he sits there and grunts with his fists clenched tightly. This makes Chad & I laugh. Austin has gotten his three rounds of shots...not sure there is honestly much of a change. We go back mid-April for his 9 month check up, and they will check the ears out then. So, we shall wait and see. Austin is VERY busy, and he wants to pull up on everything!

Alyssa is cracking me up a lot these days. The latest is the 'SERIES' of questions I get every morning on the way to school. The other morning was the loads of questions about the 12 year old who took who parents truck and drove on the interstate. She was very curious how the police could find his parents. :) This morning was something else...but the long day has kept me from remembering. And, the best part of her Monday was playing 'pretend boyfriends' with her best friend 'A' after school. But I was rest assured when she told me there was NO kissing!

Ear Infections Stink!

Dear Austin,
Well, your sixth tooth broke through on Wednesday, March 24. One of the top right ones. You were sleeping through the night last week, but this week has been not been so good. You are waking up about midnight and 5 am. Yesterday we went back to the doctor for another checkup. Your ears were still red and bulging. It lead the doctors to give you the first day of shots. Boo! We had to go back today for round two. The doctor said they looked better, so that is good, but there was still some redness. You did sleep through the night last night! You cried just a bit today, and then you were good. So strong....'atta boy! Sad news...we go back tomorrow for the third day of shots. :( Hopefully they will be better. If not...we go back in two weeks, and the doctors could tell us to get tubes put in. So, we will see!

On the bright side...before your doctor's appointment we had an awesome morning! You were VERY proud of yourself this morning. I was grading papers on the couch and you pulled yourself up to stand there. Oh, the grin that was behind that pacifier! You are all about trying to pull up and stand right now. And, you want in every trash can and fan in the house! Then, we packed up and headed to the park. We played, and you even did some slides with alyssa, and you LOVED the swings. You had fun watching a squirrel, and then we had a picnic in the park. You were soooo good. After that, we headed over to ride the train. Alyssa loves to ride the train, and you seemed to enjoy it just as much! You were smiling and very excited through the whole ride. And, the weather was just gorgeous for us as well!

Now you are napping while Alyssa plays, and I am off to grade more papers. :( Before I forget....baths have become very exciting for you. I have to close the curtains some because you splash water EVERYWHERE as you get very excited. It is pretty funny. I love seeing you so happy about so many things. Keep that spirit forever.

And, Alyssa....I hope that you and your brother will continue to have the relationship you have now. You two love one another so much, and you take such good care of him. He won't be able to get away with much having you around!!!

I love you both....Mom

I love Spring Break!

What a WONDERFUL day it was today!!!
Yesterday we did not do too much exciting....I dropped Austin off at school, while Alyssa & I went to work in my room and go to the grocery store. Then we headed home to unload & reload to go set up for our casino party! Then it was back home to get ready & meet the sitter! Chad and I had an AWESOME time at our casino night....good times & laughs with many dear friends! AND....I want to go gambling SO bad! I love me some blackjack....and I even picked up learning how to play some Craps tonight! And, Chad....well....he does NOT enjoy gambling! He would rather hang on to the money! :)
Today was AMAZING! We woke up early. I was a 'fool' and scheduled Alyssa's dentist appointment early.

Alyssa my dear....how you DISLIKE the dentist (and any doctors). I feel so bad because you get yourself worked up in tears so quickly. :( We did actually get you to lay on the table this time so the lady could clean & floss your teeth. (Last time you stayed in my lap...baby steps...) We still have not gotten to take pictures of your teeth - that is the goal for the next visit. The doctors have commented on how tight your teeth are and have told me both times that braces will be in the future - more so sooner than later :(. Ugh...poor thing. I 'DREAD' those days and pray that you will overcome most of your anxiety issues by then!
After the appointment we went to meet Meghan and the kiddos! We all headed to SA to watch Pinkalicious at the Magic Theatre. You seemed to LOVE the show. You got to run around with your friends on the awesome playground before and after the show. We also enjoyed a sack lunch picnic there after the show. Then we headed to Sonic for 'happy hour' before going on to the Witte Museum. We went through the dinosaur exhibit, and I was impressed that you were not scared of the dinosaurs in there! You had a blast playing in the Science Treehouse. Had some cool things in there. After that we loaded up, and we did a little shopping in Old Navy. You helped me pick out Austin's swim trunks. So cute!!!! Then we met four of my college girlfriends for dinner. I didn't think you were going to make it (or myself) but you ate a bit and then it was time to call it a day!!! You were out in no time on the way home. Austin spent the day at his daycare, and hanging out at the baseball field with Dad. THANK YOU for a great time today Alyssa - I had a blast! I look forward to so many more memories with you. I love you my sweetie! And a major thanks to Kinley's mom for planning most of this great day!!

Some pics...

Okay...I am working on figuring out the pictures. So here are a few...until I can get on my Mac and upload some more. These are from February.

A picture of my three favorite people at dad's fundraiser day!

My future baseball player....LOVE this smile!

Our two blessings....

Spring Break is here!

I have to start by talking about last Sunday...What an AWESOME day it was! We (all four of us) spent most of the day out in the backyard and on the back porch. We finally got out Austin's swing - took down one of Alyssa's...and watched the two of them swing side by side. We moved the playpen on the back porch, I graded papers :( outside, and we even went to pick up dinner and enjoyed eating outside.

I am so glad this past week is over. Alyssa had her first two softball games for the 'Thunder' team. Quite entertaining! She also was not feeling well. She got over the stomach bug, but then she got some sort of infection that led to some major draining of the ear. Took her to the doctor on Wednesday and got some meds. She is doing much better now - you could see a great difference one day later.

We also tried going out to eat one night...why do we do this??? Austin is not nearly as good as Alyssa was as restaurants! I ate some with Alyssa while dad took care of his boy. Got the to-go boxes and headed home quickly.

Baseball is not going too well right now for dad....we need some major prayers and hope for it to turn around in the right direction. Austin is into EVERYTHING! He wants to check out everything and put everything in his mouth. He is really starting to pull up on things a lot. He also likes to try to stand up on all fours. Looks like he is doing some push-ups or something! He is not really interested in sitting still at baseball games either. He loves to laugh at this toy horse that sings. He sits and bounces and giggles while it plays. I also laugh at how he sits and kicks his legs when he gets excited....reminds me of all the kicking I felt in my belly before he was born. And when you smile sometimes...you crinkle up your nose. SO cute.

Alyssa is so happy to be on spring break...as are we! Tonight she and I made a cake, and she had fun putting on the icing and sprinkles...along with licking the bowl and the icing. My kind of girl!

We have been busy the past few days. We had a birthday party on Friday, and two yesterday. Today was a family day...and it was awesome to not be in a rush anywhere. We went to church, then tried to take some pics but Austin was asleep, so we went to lunch instead. I actually got to eat as Austin stayed asleep in the booth while the three of us enjoyed our lunch. I had a bit of a moment....God was truly testing my patience....as Alyssa spilled cranberry juice on her dress. Remember....we didn't do the pictures...we were going back!!!! So, after my husband reminded me...along with me taking a chill pill...it was only an accident. So, after lunch we headed to take Easter pictures with a bunny. THANK GOODNESS for photo shop...the photographer said she would take care of it! The kids were GREAT at the pictures, and I can't wait to see them.

After that we headed home for the rest of the afternoon. Chad took Alyssa to softball practice...he even helped out. What a change to go from teenage boys to coaching 5-7 year old girls!!!

Looking forward to some great memories this week! I love you both so much.

And by the way....one of the GREATEST sounds in the world is the giggle of a baby! Makes everything better.

Today...

Today Austin turned 8 months old! He is truly on the move...and a boy! Much busier already than Alyssa was. We went to the doctor yesterday for a follow up on his ears. He weighed 19 lbs 15 oz. The ears were not better. Both were very red now and looked bad inside. What do they REALLY look like in there??? I wish they would let me look one time. As if I would really know what to look for, but.... Anyways, we are on our third round of meds for it, and at this point I am preparing myself for the possibility of tubes in the VERY near future. :( With that being said, it is almost two years since Alyssa got hers, and they are still not completely healed. She has a little hole still in her left ear which is probably going to require a 'patch' surgery very soon. The doctor recommends doing it about 6 weeks before summer so that she can swim and all. It is an outpatient surgery, and they say it is simple like the tubes, BUT it is still a 'surgery.' So, we will see how that goes!

Chad is in the midst of baseball, so today was the bracket play of the tournament....which they WON tonight. They went 6-0 in three days...whew! I am so proud of him, and all that he puts up with in a sport with so many issues. Anyways, the three of us took it easy this morning, and then we packed up and headed to Gruene for a couple hours. We walked around, and then ate a late lunch. What a BEAUTIFUL day! I enjoyed hanging with the two kiddos...they were both great. Then we stopped by a friends house to drop off/pick up some stuff, went to HEB, softball practice, and back home. What a busy, but blessed day! Alyssa and I even had a conversation in the car stating all the things we are thankful for.

Also, I learned something new last night. Before we left Supernanny was on. I must confess that I like watching that show for ideas on 'improving' my patience. So, I recorded two episdoes. After we got home, I put one on, and Alyssa watched some of it with me. It was a GOOD learning tool for her. She saw how to/not to act, and we had some discussions. Nothing too major....THEN this evening she started to test me a little. All of a sudden she says, "Momma...come here." Yes, Alyssa? "I love you, and I am sorry for being bad earlier." awww...melted my heart....so THANK YOU Supernanny!!!

Dear Austin

Dear Austin,
You will be 8 months this weekend....wow! Tonight I watched you...soaking up the 'baby' moments. What an amazing age you are at. How wonderful and easy life is at this moment. No worries...just getting to eat, sleep, and play. You are simply precious, and so much fun. You are a happy little guy who smiles a lot. I LOVE IT! You have two more teeth that broke through this week - on Tuesday, March 8. You now have your two bottom and top teeth, along with another one on the top left. They bother you some, but you are not too fussy. You love your wub-a-nub pacifiers! They have been great, and so easy for you to grab and find. You are definitely opposite of Alyssa in the fact that you want that pacifier all the time. In the mornings you wake up a happy guy. We get you dressed for Missie's house, and you have a bottle. Right now you like to prepare a 'gift' for Missie on our way to school, and then you seem very happy and content throughout the day with your friends. How blessed we are that the kids of two of my best friends are with you daily. :) At your school you lay in the playpen and fall asleep on your own for naps. Wow!?! That doesn't usually happen at our house. You typically fall asleep on the way home. Sometimes you wake up when we get home, and other times you continue napping. You are usually worn out from your day. We get home and you usually eat, play, and take a bath before getting ready for bed. We typically rock you to sleep after giving you a small bottle. However, lately that has not really worked. You do better if I just go put you in your bed. I guess that is better in the long run, right??? I just miss cuddling with you, and falling asleep with you in my arms. We also usually give you some sort of breathing treatment once you are asleep. You have had some struggles with bronchiolitis, and right now the doctors say we should do a long term, once a day steroid treatment. You have been okay for a week or so now. You are also recovering from a second ear infection. You are eating 2nd foods, and seem to be loving them. I think you prefer the fruits over the veggies and meats. You like to eat the 'stars' too. I feel so behind on your eating schedule, but I think you will be okay! You typically wake up once during the night, insisting on having a bottle. You were awesome in the beginning about sleeping through the night, but ever since you got sick you like to wake up at least once. You have started crawling, and you are on the move. You LOVE bathtime...you like to splash around, and you have no problems with water in your face. There are a couple of toys you enjoy chewing on while taking your bath. I love to tickle you, your giggles are the best. And, you are quite ticklish! I also love listening to you sit and 'grunt' while playing. You are starting to babble more. You have recently picked up shaking your head 'no' for some things. YIKES! We are in trouble. You mainly do it when you are eating and you don't want anymore. Smart little guy! You LOVE trying to chew on my phone and the remotes, along with your daddy's caps. Everytime he is wearing a hat, you want it. Going out to eat is not nearly as simple as it was with Alyssa. You are okay for a little while, but then you are very antsy. You want to be on the move, or up walking around. Usually dinner entails us taking turns to eat and staying at the table with Alyssa. You go to others fairly easily - the baseball moms enjoy holding you which gives me some Alyssa time. I marvel at the sibling 'love' between you and Alyssa. Listening and watching you two play just melts my heart. Oh I love you sweet boy, and I thank you for making me smile everyday. I love you - Mom

Dear Alyssa

Dear Alyssa,
I can't believe you are getting close to finishing up Kindergarten! Where has the time gone? You are doing so much better than I ever imagined! You still have your 'shy' moments, but you have come out of your shell a lot. I was very nervous about you going to school, after our past experiences. You didn't cry in the mornings...thankfully. You have an AMAZING teacher, and we are so blessed. One day this semester I asked if you wanted to go through the drop off line, and you said YES! It was a bittersweet moment watching you walk up to school on your own. I was so proud, but yet a bit sad as I watched my big girl walk up! I am so happy with how you have responded to riding the bus to my campus every day, and how you have adjusted to waiting on me in the afternoons, while getting to play with the other teacher's kids. It will be sad in a couple weeks when their moms all move to a different part of the building, but I know we will make it work. (You don't know that is coming yet!) You love to play school in the afternoons - and at the house. You are always teaching your students. :) Following the same routine you do at your school. In the mornings you wake up to your own alarm clock, and most of the time you pick out your own clothes and get yourself dressed. Breakfast is not necessarily your favorite....unless of course we go by the donut store - Shipleys! We must do that at least once a week! My favorite part of the day is probably when we go pick up Austin. He smiles everytime he says you, and he gets so excited. I love the times on our way home, or wherever, and you have him giggling in the back! I pray you two will have a great relationship always! You love that little guy soooo much, and it just makes me smile to think about it. When we come home you finish homework, and then you LOVE to watch TV. You know your channels, and you enjoy watching Hanna Montana, Suite Life, and many others. You take your shower after dinner, and then you read to me or daddy. Your reading has improved so much this year. It is amazing how those 'chunks' and 'blenders' have taught you so much! You also feed your fish, Doree, before you lay down. You can't go to sleep without 'Spitzie' - your cat from Mikaylee's 7th birthday party. You still want one of us to lay with you while you go to sleep. It is nice at times, but hard because I like to fall asleep myself. :) You are much better though because I can go do some things and come back and check on you. You are having fun playing softball, and you love to play in the backyard when we have nice weather. You swing, practice softball, jump on the trampoline, play with your dolls, or whatever. You still love to play with your babies....you LOVE to take care of them. Today was the first time I had to pick you up from school - you have some sort of stomach bug. So sad to see you like this....but you are being quite the trooper. I pray you feel better in the morning. You are super sweet, and you like to do/make things for other people. You get embarrassed pretty easily, and you don't like for people to laugh at you. You are a great student at school, and I can only imagine how it would rock your world if you don't get a 'happy face' one day at school. You are a rule follower....well most of the time! You like to test me at times. You continue to teach me about patience...and I wish I was so much better. I love you so much my sweet girl, and I am so thankful for you. I love you to the moon and back a zillion times. Muah! Love - Mom

Alyssa & Austin

Alyssa is 5 1/2 now, and she is in Kindergarten. She is doing great, and she loves school! She is my perfectionist, and I am so proud of what a great student she is. She played softball in the fall, and her practices are just getting started for the spring. It is fun to see how her reading has improved, and I am having fun seeing her learn how to add and subtract! Austin is almost 8 months, and he just started crawling yesterday. He has been waiting to take off! He has two bottom teeth & one on the top. The other three top teeth are working their way through any day now as well. He loves smiling at everyone, but especially his big sis. And he is so patient with her being in his 'face' all the time! They are both so precious...of course I am biased....and everyday we are reminded of how blessed we are.

Welcome!

Hello everyone! I am starting this blog as my 'journal.' This will be my place to write to my kiddos, and to share stories for anyone interested. I was so great about keeping a journal for Alyssa until Austin arrived. Now life and being a mom of two has me a bit busy! How do people with more than two survive??? Hope you enjoy visiting our page, and please be patient as I learn how this all works!
